I find Dollie MAPLES in the 1920 Anderson County, Tennessee Census (E.D. 14, Sheet 1-A, Household #12-- Stamped Page No. 172). Dollie is listed as head of household, 68 years old, and divorced. She is enumerated with her daughter Pearl (28 years old), and granddaughter Reba (4 9/12 years old). Living next door to Dollie are the families of Sam W. GIBSON and Cage M. MAPLES. (Households #13 and #14 respectively). I would like to correspond with anyone who can help me determine what relation, if any, Dollie MAPLES had to these two families. Also would like to correspond with anyone who can provide information on the parents of Dorothy "Dollie" GIBSON and her first husband, Elijah C. MURPHY (b. about 1845, possibly Sevier County, Tenn.) GROSS. Seeking female daughters of the Edmund GROSS and Martha GRAY family that migrated from Washington Co., Virginia to the Campbell Co., Tennessee area between 1802 and 1805. Edmund GROSS was a Captain in the early Campbell County Militia and a Justice of the Peace until he moved most of his family to Owen Co., Kentucky in about 1837/39. Left behind were sons Isaac GROSS married to Martha WHITMAN and Edmund D. GROSS married to Mary WHITMAN. The GROSSes owned land in the Cove Creek and Indian Creek areas of Campbell County near the border with Anderson County, Tennessee. An eldest daughter born about 1803/04 possibly in Virginia or Tennessee has not been identified. Another daughter born about 1813/14 in Campbell Co., Tennessee has not been identified.
GRAY/GROSS. Seeking information about Martha GRAY born 26 Nov 1784 in Virginia; married 22 May 1800 in Washington County, Virginia to Edmond GROSS born 13 Mar 1779 in Virginia. They settled before 1805 in the area that became Campbell County, Tennessee where he helped found Indian Creek Baptist Church in 1833. About 1837 they moved to Owen County, Kentucky with several of their sons. Was she possibly the daughter of Nathaniel GRAY who also came to Campbell County, Tennessee from Virginia?
WHITMAN. Seeking information about John WHITMAN a Revolutionary War soldier who settled in Campbell County, Tennessee. He supposedly had two sons whom he left in Campbell County, Tennessee after he returned to the old home site in Virginia. His sons were John WHITMAN and Jacob WHITMAN. Jacob was born 22 Feb 1781 possibly in Buckingham County, Virginia; died 1858 in Campbell County, Tennessee; married Sarah AGEE, also of Buckingham County, Virginia.
LINDSAY/STORM/HALL. Seeking information about Matthew LINDSAY and his descendants. Matthew was born in Scotland and settled possibly in Montgomery County, Virginia. His son William LINDSAY Sr. was born about 1770-1780 in Virginia; died 1848 in Campbell County, Tennessee. He married Mary STORM born about 1785 in Virginia; died 1863 in Campbell County, Tennessee; daughter of Cornelius STORM (of Virginia, then Carter County, Tennessee and then KY) and wife Nancy HALL.
THOMAS/LUCAS/WILSON. Seeking information about Adonijah THOMASes in Campbell Co., Tennessee. One Adonijah THOMAS was born about 1790 in Virginia. He is not likely to be the Adonijah THOMAS who was made the administrator of Benjamin JOHNSON's estate in Sevier Co., Tennessee in 1804. It is unlikely that a fourteen year old boy would be made administrator of such a valuable estate. In 1808 an Adonijah THOMAS married the widow Theodocia WILSON JOHNSON (she born 15 Nov 1773 in Montgomery County, Virginia). Again it is unlikely (but not impossible) that a man born in 1790 would marry a woman born in 1773. Theodocia had six children by her first husband who were raised by this Adonijah THOMAS according to interviews with those children's descendants in Arkansas years later. This Adonijah THOMAS and Theodocia WILSON JOHNSON THOMAS family soon thereafter settled in Campbell County, Tennessee and had four more children: a daughter born about 1809, a daughter Juliet THOMAS born June 1811 who married Archibald W. LINDSAY, a son Samuel Wilson THOMAS born about 1813 who had a Civil War Pension, and another daughter born about 1815. An Adonijah THOMAS later married a Mary Ann LOVEDY/LOVELY on 8 Aug 1847 in Campbell Co., Tennessee and had a son M. J. THOMAS born about 1857 in Campbell Co., Tennessee. Were there one or two or more Adonijah THOMASes in early Campbell Co., Tennessee?
